5 Email Marketing Tips to Ramp up Holiday Sales
With an economic slump AND the holidays almost upon us, there's no time like the present to review some best practices in Email Marketing. These five tips will get you ready for the holidays and help bolster sales.
1. No need to start your holiday marketing program from scratch. Reuse profitable campaigns, but don’t forget to test new elements to improve click-thrus and conversions. If last year’s program was disappointing, you may not have to scrap it entirely. Review email marketing basics; revamp; and try again.
2. Build your campaigns around bringing value to your subscribers. Present worthwhile information and special offers that will resonate with recipients. Coupons and free shipping are two simple ways to strengthen your offer and increase holiday sales. No hard sell tactics, please.
3. Make sure EVERY message is targeted and relevant. Each interest group should receive a different message. A teenager with acne should NOT receive the same email as a forty-year-old mother of three. Haven’t segmented your list yet? No problem, you can target by data. Consider past purchase behavior, email spending, and click-thru behavior. Make SURE your landing page is connected to your email.
4. Step up email frequency before the holiday - but tell subscribers why. Sending email every two weeks is justified if you’re broadcasting real deals and special offers that will make holiday shopping easier, faster, and stress-free. Whenever possible, let subscribers choose how often they want to be contacted. Be sure to test different subject lines to improve open rates.
5. Create and test strong, concise call-to-action statements. Strategically place them "above the fold," within the body of the email, in the side bar, and again at the end. Some action statements should be simple text, while other should be placed in images. Remember, some people will respond best to a statement such as "learn more" while others may respond better to a "buy now" button. The important thing is to create a clear call-to-action and test it before sending to a large group.
Conclusion: In these uncertain times, it’s more important than ever to implement best practices in email marketing. Small measures to improve campaign response rates can reap great rewards.
